About the Lower Back

Your lower back muscles help you stand up straight and bend backward. They work opposite to your abs. When you do a back extension or deadlift, your lower back muscles are working.

  • Erector Spinae: Three muscles that run along your spine. They help you stand up straight and bend backward.
  • Multifidus: Deep muscles that help stabilize your spine. They're the first muscles that activate when you move to protect your spine.
  • Quadratus Lumborum: Helps you bend sideways. It's crucial for keeping your hips level when you walk.
